Fenchurch 2000

2000

Genesis - a few kids meet up to skate, they become great friends and a beautiful story begins.

The result of many late-night sessions the idea to create our own brand is born. We already made our own clothes so we decided to take it to the next step and make clothes for people like us, who searched for a style they could identify with.

We decide to call our brand Fenchurch after a part of London where we used to skate.

Our friends at New Deal Skates share our vision and provide the backing we need to get started.

Our logo is created by our friends at Slingshot Design.

We buy our first industrial sewing machine and teach ourselves pattern cutting, grading and formal tailoring in an effort to really understand how clothes are made. We then make our first prototypes.

Almost a year later, with our first catalogue printed it is time to hit the UK market. Heat sealed launch packs are sent to key retailers and media.

The media launch of Fenchurch - Our first ads appear in Document, Sidewalk and Ride. Designed as teaser ads, they feature no product, just the logo and names of team riders.

We pre-sell our first range of men's clothing to 35 of favourite skate shops. The range has a total of 30 pieces.

Disaster strikes, our beautiful new home is burnt to the ground - everything is lost.

With all our samples lost in the fire, we show at the TBC tradeshow with pages of our sales catalogue on hangers and a fire extinguisher. Ironically we get complimented on our "cool and original" approach to tradeshows!!!

We move back into a warehouse, this time in Greenford, West London.

We enlist the help of our friends at the design agency The Church of London to create a new ad campaign for SS07 (no connection to the church of Fen!!).

We wanted people to experience our London wherever they are so we called it "Born in London, at home everywhere". The campaign was a genius trompe l'oeil - backgrounds and models were shot separately and then with a bit of photoshop magic it was all layered together. Scenes featured our favourite London pastimes and much fun was had shooting the backgrounds, at The Walhamstow Dogs and our favourite pubs and restaurants around London.

Then the designers went one better, with our winter campaign very Bright Lights, Bright Fenchurch logo!

Things spiralled and by the end of 2008, we were also putting the finishing touches to the Fenchurch Loves Bottletop collection of ethical products made from ringpulls collected from the streets of Salvador, Brazil. For our ad campaigns we teamed our with agency I Love Dust for a fresh freehand illustrated SS08 campaign, they then followed with some celebrity endorsed ads for AW08 which featured Goldielock and Just Jack among others.
