Introduction:

Ben Mynott is a firmly established figure in the downtempo movement and has built up a vast following through his work as a DJ, radio presenter and producer through his fluidnation movement. His album Voices from the Dustbowl earnt him album of the year plaudits including from Big Chill co-founder Pete Lawrence. We thought we best check him out...

You're a man of many talents - what hat do you prefer wearing: DJ, producer, radio presenter?

All hats for different reasons - it's just great to be involved in music, because it really is amazing to be doing something I love so much.

How did you get into DJing in the first place?

I kind of fell into it when my band split up - the bookings came in and out came the tunes!

What's the best venue you've ever played and why?

I love the playing at the Big Chill Festival at the Eastnor Deer Park, but playing in Goa in 40 degree heat was an awesome experience, we drank seven litres of water in three hours.

How would you describe your tunes?

Just.beautiful.music - proper downtempo stuff.

Who are your favourite artists and why?

There's so many - Jon Hopkins is one. For me, without doubt the most talented person in music right now by an absolute mile. His new album will be dropping next year and it's awesome. There are so many others too. I like old school stuff as well; I'm a massive Marvin fan.

What venue would you love to play?

Anywhere with a great feel and a nice sunset!

Who are your heroes?

My family, my wife, Marvin Gaye, Dean Martin, Steve Coppell to name just a few.

What are you currently working on?

I'm currently working on a new album for next year, with the working title, 'Private Lounge' - it's really nice mid to uptempo tunes, a proper nice flavour. It'll out on the iLabel in February.
