Kid Acne
Introduction:
Kid Acne aka Edna is an old friend of the family. He designed his own collection of tees for Fenchurch back in 2005. Since then he’s been busy, designing for the likes of Prada and putting together his first album which will be released on EMI. He took some time out to answer our annoying questions. Welcome back to the fold Kid Acne!
What inspires you?
Programs like 'Riverside Cottage' and the likes of Dan Cruickshank, Ray Mears and Tony Robinson. Proper telly.
What shoes did you wear today?
Wet ones, cos it chucked it down with rain and I stood in a puddle.
What’s the best thing about being Kid Acne?... and the worst?
I guess the best thing's being able to travel and meet good people whilst doing the things that I love to do. The worst thing is probably having to endure all the ballbags that crop up along the way, rather than spending proper time with your mates.
What’s the highlight of your career so far?
The highlights are those moments of happiness when you step away from the wall to see your painting finished for the first time and you got the proportions correct, or you do a gig and the sound man is your friend and the people go wild for more, or you get your artwork back from the printers and they haven't fucked it up somehow. But generally these moments are overshadowed by the rule of thumb that "If anything can go wrong, it will".
Who would you like to work with?
People who know what they're good at and like to get the job done.
What makes you smile?
Monkeys at the zoo doing a waz on one another.
Does your art and music have similar themes and links or do you prefer to keep them separate?
The only link is that I've made them both. I'm finding it harder to work on a number of projects simultaneously, whereas I used to love that the most, it's nice doing whatever you want, just for the hell of it. But right now I'd like for each thing to fill it's potential, which is why I'm trying to concentrate on one thing at a time, but whichever route I take; haphazard and ramshackle tends to reign supreme. We'll see if they meet in the middle one day...
What phrase sums up your way of life?
Hand to mouth.
Where would you like to be 10 years from now?
Above ground.
