Uncle Buck
Introduction:
London DJs Uncle Buck found fame when Radio 1's Zane Lowe described them as "spearheading the recent serge in indie/dance and crossover." Not a bad compliment to say the least. They went on to tour with the likes of Klaxons, The Futureheads and Sway as well as being the youngest ever DJs to play Manumission.
Who are you?
We are Alex James and Seb James from sunny north London.
What do you do?
We play music. Fun music and serious music. Electro, house, techno, disco and pretty much anything else people can dance to. We don't like to pin ourselves down to genres or what everyone thinks is the new cool thing, we think you have to keep an open mind as a DJ. If it makes people dance, we'll be playing it.
How did your big break DJ’ing for Zane Lowe come about?
Seb met Zane at a gig. Seb then begged for us to play some records before one of this shows. 20 or more phone calls to his agent later, we got the gig. From then, we got signed up to his agency and that got the ball rolling.
Where did the name come from?
God it sucks, we know and we hate it; it's stupid. We used to put on all the good clubnights at university and just played under our own names as residents. The we got a gig at the Barfly and Seb got a call from the promoter, they asked us what we wanted to be billed as and he just put that. Then it stuck like chewing gum in hair and now we can't shake it off. Hey - ho.
Where do you want your musical journey to take you?
From sweaty little 50 people basement clubs to festivals and street carnivals around the globe.
Some highlights so far?
Hmmm, Glastonbury was dream come true, youngest DJs ever to play Manumission perhaps. Also DJing at a street party in Mexico on New Year's Eve topped it off.
Home or away?
Hmm away. There's just so much to see.
Big or small?
Big, very big.
Black or white?
Black.
Up or down?
Up
In or out?
Shake it all about.
